OXNARD : Man Pleads Guilty to Fatal Stabbing

Share

An Oxnard man pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder and use of a deadly weapon in connection with the April stabbing death of his sister’s 19-year-old boyfriend.

Donald Culbertson, 24, also entered guilty pleas to two counts of aggravated assault that stem from separate attacks on his former girlfriend and another woman.

Culbertson faces 21 years to life in prison, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Donald C. Glynn. Glynn said Culbertson’s plea would lead to conviction of second-degree murder at sentencing.

“He’s got an aggressive, violent personality where he beats up women,” Glynn said.

Police arrested Culbertson in connection with the slaying of David Rubio of Oxnard on April 10. Rubio was stabbed in an alley behind the 5200 block of Columbus Place.

The victim had borrowed a car from Culbertson’s sister and was late returning it one night, Glynn said. That led to an argument and Rubio’s death, he said.

Glynn also said Culbertson badly beat his ex-girlfriend, Mysti Giralde, 20, damaging her pancreas. The second assault charge stemmed from an attack against the girlfriend of Culbertson’s stepfather, he said.
