It didn’t take long for Reece Keck to find a new home for her cuisine. Beginning tomorrow evening the former dinner chef at City Bakery Cafe will be serving up her specialties Friday and Saturday nights at the Ash Street Coffee House in downtown Ventura.

Clients who enjoyed Keck’s work during her four-plus months at City Bakery might be happy to know that she will prepare pretty much the same fare at Ash Street. And, as before, most of the menu will change weekly.

“I thought things went pretty well (at City Bakery) and I want to keep the momentum going,” said Keck. “I’ll continue with the Grilled Bread Salad--that was the only thing that was on the menu regularly. I’ll have a poultry dish, a pasta, a pizza, something vegetarian, and a fresh fish.” Don’t be surprised to find a meat special also. The Ash Street Coffee House is at 12 N. Ash St.

Look for The Greek Restaurant, formerly of Oxnard, to open its new Ventura Harbor location sometime this weekend. At least that’s what the owners are shooting for. And there’s been a slight--though quite appropriate--name change. The Greek Restaurant is now The Greek at the Harbor. It’s located at 1583 Spinnaker Drive, Suite 101.

How does a salmon filet baked with fresh garlic and dill, finished with sun-dried tomato and dill hollandaise sauce with roasted pine nuts sound? How about a caponata served with fresh onion, flat bread toast and fresh grated Parmesan cheese?

Those were a couple of the items on the menu last week when Nona’s Courtyard Cafe in Ventura began serving dinners Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. “It will be a fairly eclectic type menu, changing every week,” said Jonathan Enabnit, creator of Nona’s. “We’ll have four different appetizers and at least six different entrees--a fresh fish, pasta, veal, chicken, risotto, and fresh meats.”

These new dishes will be prepared by Chef Annie Harfield, most recently the executive chef at Coco’s Place in Ventura. Nona’s is at 67 California St.

It was about three months ago that Gail and Don Hobbs put out a final call for recipes for their self-published “Cookin’ in Ventura” cookbook. Well, they got them--54 recipes from 33 restaurants spread around Oxnard, Ventura and Ojai. The book went to the printer last week.
