Mighty Duck goaltender Guy Hebert, who helped lead the U.S. team to a fourth-place finish at the World Hockey Championships last month, will receive the 1994 Bob Johnson Medallion at a banquet Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The award is given annually by USA Hockey in recognition of contributions to U.S. teams in international competition. The other 1994 recipient is Karen Kay, coach of the U.S. team that won the silver medal in the women’s World Championships.

Hebert, who went 20-27-3 for the Ducks during their first season, appeared in six games for the U.S. team in the World Championships, posting a 4-2 record and a 3.60 goals-against average.

Corona del Mar High athletic director Jerry Jelnick announced Thursday that he has fired baseball Coach Matt Lundin after one season. Lundin led the Sea Kings to an 18-9 record and a second-place finish in the Sea View League, but Jelnick said, “We want to go in a different direction.”

Jelnick said the decision to fire Lundin was “sudden.”

“They need different leadership,” Jelnick said.

Lundin replaced Scott Magers, who coached the Sea Kings four seasons before going to Chapman last year as an assistant baseball coach.
