Three Players Sign With Kings; Robitaille Has Surgery on Ankle

The Kings have signed free-agent forward Rob Brown, free-agent defenseman Michel Petit and 1992 draft choice Jeff Shevalier, General Manager Sam McMaster announced.

Brown, 26, was the most valuable player and leading scorer in the International Hockey League last season, getting 155 points, including 42 goals, in 79 games for Kalamazoo. A 5-foot-11, 185-pound right wing, Brown is a veteran of more than five NHL seasons and has accumulated 351 points and 514 penalty minutes in 351 games with four teams.

Petit, 30, is a 6-1, 210-pound veteran of 11 NHL seasons with five teams. Last season, he played in 63 games for the Calgary Flames, getting 23 points and 110 penalty minutes.

Shevalier, 20, is a 5-11, 185-pound left wing who has enjoyed two consecutive 100-point seasons in the Ontario Hockey League. The fifth-round draft pick signed a three-year contract.

The Kings also announced that Luc Robitaille underwent surgery to repair a slight fracture in his right ankle on Wednesday, and is expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp.
