In a symbolic gesture linking the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic to the South-Central area that it serves, more than 200 city officials, business people and community leaders tied together strips of ribbons Thursday as part of the dedication of the clinic’s new facility.

“Children in L.A. County have really been the ones to suffer from disasters that hit us . . . so a center like this and a place where (clinic staff) can provide a sense of guidance is really crucial in L.A.,” County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke said.

The peach-colored, $9.6-million structure has allowed clinic officials to expand services and classes for the more than 100 children, most of them black and Latino, use the clinic each day.

The clinic, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, opened at its new location on South Vermont Avenue in May.
