THOUSAND OAKS : Sting Cites Clerks Who Sell Alcohol to Minors

Share

A Ventura County Sheriff’s Department sting operation timed to coincide with high school graduation parties caught 14 store employees in the act of selling alcohol to minors.

Sheriff’s cadets ages 18 and 19 visited about 60 businesses in Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park on Friday night and asked to purchase alcoholic beverages.

At 14 of the stores, the sales clerks complied. They were cited and released at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials called the sting an effective means of combatting the problems associated with young people drinking.

The program was scheduled to occur during graduation because of the numerous end-of-the-year parties being held in the east part of the county, officials said.
