A New Orleans advertising executive lost his bid to play bass guitar with the Rolling Stones on one song in exchange for a $50,000 charity donation, but local charities still came out winners.

Herb Montalbano Jr. said Friday that Stones publicist Fran Curtis told him the band had nixed his performance, but he decided to give away the $50,000 anyway.

“Maybe I can help answer some little kid’s dream,” he said, even though his dream of playing with the band remained just that.

Montalbano said he sent a check for $20,000 to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans and will divide $30,000 among several other charities, including the Humane Society.

The Stones have included New Orleans on the list of cities they hope to play, but no date or location has been announced.
