Ducks’ Yake Undergoes Surgery on Shoulder

Share

Terry Yake, the Mighty Ducks’ leading scorer during the team’s first season, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Monday but is expected to recover fully before training camp opens Sept. 4.

Team physician Ronald Glousman performed what was described as a quick, uncomplicated surgery at Centinela Hospital, repairing damage resulting from a hit that Yake took against Edmonton April 8.

Yake, who also suffered a concussion in that game, missed the next two games but returned to the ice for the regular-season finale against Vancouver April 13, contributing an assist for his 52nd point of the season. That assist gave him the team scoring title over Bob Corkum, who had 51 and led the team in goals with 23 despite missing the final eight games because of a ruptured tendon in his right foot.

Jay Grossman, the agent for Valeri Karpov, the Ducks’ 1993 third-round draft choice, said he and General Manager Jack Ferreira have reached agreement on a three-year contract (two years plus an option). Grossman said the actual signing was “imminent,” pending resolution of minor details. Grossman declined to disclose financial terms.

Karpov--a right wing the Ducks had hoped to sign before last season to provide much-needed scoring help--had three goals and an assist for the Russian Olympic team at Lillehammer last winter.
