RESEDA : Kaiser Donates 5 Cars to LAPD

They won’t be used in high-speed chases, but five cars donated to police by Kaiser Permanente will get more black and whites on the streets of the San Fernando Valley.

The donation of five sedan-style vehicles comes in response to a call from Councilwoman Laura Chick to help the Los Angeles Police Department. The vehicles will boost the police fleet by freeing up patrol cars now used for administrative duties, such as traveling to and from court.

On Monday morning, Kaiser will challenge other organizations to follow its lead at a news conference at the LAPD’s West Valley Division.

“(Chick) is on a crusade to get companies to help the cash-strapped LAPD,” said Eric Rose, a spokesman for Chick. “She is going to make a challenge to other corporate leaders.”

Last year, Chick led a donation drive to computerize the West Valley Division, where officers had been writing up their reports by hand or on typewriters. Since then, several companies in the Valley have donated more than $30,000 in equipment to the division, including about 50 computers, bicycles and sophisticated camera equipment.
