Winston Miller; Screenwriter, Producer

Winston Miller, 83, screenwriter and producer of films and television series such as “The Virginian” and “Ironside.” Born in St. Louis and educated at Princeton, he began his Hollywood career at Republic Studios and then worked on serials and short subjects at MGM. Signed with David O. Selznick, he was among the writers who worked on “Gone With the Wind.” In the next two decades, taking time out to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II, Miller wrote 39 screenplays, including “Home in Indiana,” “April Love” and “My Darling Clementine.” Moving to Universal Studios and television in 1960, Miller worked as a writer and producer of several popular series, including “It Takes a Thief” and “Little House on the Prairie.” He served as a board member of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, Writers Guild and Permanent Charities Committee, which he chaired in 1966. He was also a Beverly Hills Planning Commission member and on the board of Beverly Hills Meals on Wheels. On Tuesday in Los Angeles after a heart attack.
