A 68-year-old woman died Saturday, one day after she was struck by a motorist who says her car went out of control in the drive-through lane of a fast-food restaurant.

A spokesman for the county coroner’s office said Jean Black, of Buena Park, died at 9:48 a.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Black was hit Friday by a car that accelerated suddenly in the drive-through lane of a Taco Bell restaurant at West Ball Road and South Knott Avenue, Anaheim police Sgt. Phillip Locke said.

Locke said Black was walking on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant at 11:38 a.m. when the vehicle lurched forward, drove over a curb and bounced off a cement trash container. The car then hit Black and dragged her to South Knott Avenue, where the vehicle came to a stop, Locke said.

The victim suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Police do not know why the vehicle accelerated, and the driver, Rita Katz, 40, of Anaheim, was not arrested, Locke said. An investigation is continuing.
