Income, Spending, Factory Orders Rise: The Commerce Department said Americans’ personal income rose 0.6% in May--as it did in April--boosted by job growth, a longer average workweek and higher hourly earnings. Consumer spending increased 0.4%, slightly higher than anticipated, after dipping a revised 0.4% in April. Spending, accounting for two-thirds of the nation’s economic activity, has risen in 12 of the past 14 months. In the manufacturing sector, the department said orders to U.S. factories rose 0.6% in May, following a revised 0.2% in April. Orders have climbed for three months in a row and in nine of the last 10 months. Analysts said the government reports demonstrate that the economy expanded at a comfortable pace this spring.
