WATTS GAMES : Lincoln Falls to Watts Champion Banning : Boys’ Soccer

Oscar Bergen and Juan Delgado each scored two goals to lead Wilmington Banning to a 4-1 victory over Lincoln in the fourth round of soccer play Sunday.

Lincoln went the farthest among City teams in the single-elimination tournament. Banning was unbeaten in taking the title.

Bergen scored the first two goals and Delgado scored the last two.

Lincoln’s Melvin Hernandez scored on a breakaway to tie the score at 1-1 before the Pilots exploded for three goals late in the second half.

Lincoln 1, Ventura Buena 1 (Lincoln won penalty kicks, 6-5)--Melvin Hernandez scored Lincoln’s only goal and had the game-winning penalty kick to lead Lincoln in the third round.

Moorpark 1, South Gate 1 (Moorpark won penalty kicks 5-3)--Al Tamayo scored the winning penalty kick to give Moorpark a victory over South Gate on Saturday in the second round.

Pat Russo scored on a breakaway to give Moorpark a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. The Rams tied the score on an Eric Salazar’s header late in the second half.

Boys’ Basketball

Compton Dominguez 92, Dorsey 58--Tommy Prince scored 20 points as Dominguez showed off its impressive depth against short-handed Dorsey in the final Sunday at Compton College.

Prince, a 6-6 guard, was named most valuable player for the second season. Dorsey played without starter Shaka Holifield and four others who could not make it to the game, Dorsey Coach Kevin Gibson said.

Girls’ Basketball

Washington d. Crenshaw, forfeit.--Washington advanced to the semifinals of the Watts Summer Games when Crenshaw failed to suit up enough players for the quarterfinals.

Kristi Lattin and Naila Moseley, two of the Cougars’ top players, missed the game to play for City Force in an Amateur Athletic Union tournament game in Minnesota.

In the semifinals, junior guard Tina Greer scored 21 points and senior forward Jackie Lauderdale had 11 as the Generals beat Rialto, 45-39.

In the final, Lynwood beat Washington, 49-38.
