HOLLYWOOD : Reservoir to Be Closed for Chlorine Treatment

Share

Hollywood Reservoir will be closed for two days of treatment beginning today, during which recreational activities such as walking, jogging and bicycling will be restricted.

The closure will be in effect from 6:30 a.m. today until 6:30 a.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Debra Sass.

The 1.3-billion-gallon reservoir will be injected with chlorine to control algae and bacterial growth that typically occurs in warm summer months and is a continuing problem, Sass said.

The water will be treated with portable equipment that pumps liquid chlorine solution directly into the reservoir, she said. Because the equipment will be placed on the reservoir’s perimeter road, access must be temporarily restricted.

Although the reservoir will be removed from service, there will be no interruption of water service to customers during the treatment, Sass said.

Customers who have questions about the closure can contact the DWP’s Water Quality Help Line during business hours at (213) 367-3182.
