VAN NUYS : Fair Proceeds to Aid Project for Disabled

Share

For those who like to do their holiday shopping early, there is the upcoming “Christmas in July” gift fair sponsored by the Independent Living Center.

Twenty-five local crafts people will tout their wares--from handmade dolls to lamps--at the center July 30 and 31 to raise funds for a pre-employment program for people with severe disabilities, according to community education coordinator Sherman Pearl.

The pre-employment program provides training in office, homemaking and horticultural skills for people with physical, developmental and sensory disabilities, as well as for survivors of traumatic brain injuries.

Recently, the program’s participants joined with the Urban Greening Program of the U.S. Forestry Service to plant greenery in Van Nuys.

Pearl said he hopes the crafts fair will raise about $5,000 for the program.

Christmas in July will take place at 14151 Haynes St., Van Nuys.

It will begin at 10 a.m. both days.
