BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Puckett Leads All-Star Bonus Babies
Forty-four players earned $1.62 million in bonuses for their election or selection to the All-Star game, topped by Kirby Puckett’s $100,000.
Twenty players earned $50,000 each, and 18 earned $25,000 apiece. Four earned bonuses of $15,000 and Texas catcher Ivan Rodriguez earned the smallest bonus: $10,000.
Only 13 players did not earn bonuses. Among them was Ruben Sierra of Oakland, who would have gotten $50,000 if he had been elected to start but didn’t have a clause involving selection as a reserve.

Cade Gaspar, son of former Met Rod Gaspar and Detroit’s top draft choice last month, has signed a contract and will report to the Tigers’ farm club at Lakeland of the Class-A Florida State League.
Gaspar is a 20-year-old right-handed pitcher from Pepperdine.
