A two-story house in Valencia sustained $300,000 in damage after a fire broke out on the second floor, county fire officials said Sunday.

Linda Sue Pearson, 54, was in her home in the 24500 block of Farrow Drive Saturday afternoon when she smelled smoke. The odor became stronger and she saw smoke outside her rear window. When she walked outside the house, she saw that smoke was coming from her roof, and called firefighters.

Five engine companies from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Neither Pearson nor any firefighters were injured.
