LONG BEACH : Officials Name Manager for Queensway Project

Share

Robert Paternoster, director of planning and building, will manage the $557-million plan to remake the city’s waterfront, city officials announced.

Paternoster has overseen preparation of the massive project, known as the Queensway Bay Plan, since its conception two years ago. As project manager, he will be responsible for coordinating the financing, construction, marketing, permits and other aspects.

The proposal calls for a redevelopment of 310 acres of downtown waterfront land, mostly on an old landfill where the Shoreline Aquatic Park and lagoon are located. The lagoon would be dredged to accommodate ships, and the new harbor would be surrounded with shops, restaurants, hotels and an aquarium.

City Manager James C. Hankla appointed Eugene Zeller, superintendent of building and safety, to be acting director of planning and building in Paternoster’s absence.
