In the latest twist to a bizarre, five-year courtroom battle, a Burbank woman is seeking a restraining order against rock singer David Lee Roth, alleging that he made sexual references to her in the lyrics to his songs.

The former lead singer of the rock group Van Halen stated that he has never met Deborah Ruth Davidsohn and is the victim of an obsessive fan who has alternately posed as his fiancee and his agent, ordering thousands of dollars in merchandise under his name, according to court documents.

Roth was unavailable for comment Wednesday. He is scheduled to arrive in Denver today and will be on tour for the next two months, a spokesman for the entertainer said.

In her lawsuit, Davidsohn claims to have had a seven-year relationship with Roth in which he telephoned her constantly, destroyed belongings such as her family photos and made her the subject of one of his songs, “Yankee Rose.”

She described herself as a recovering alcoholic who first met Roth at the age of 16. “I have suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it appears he is doing everything in his power to see to it that I don’t get well,” Davidsohn stated in her complaint. “He continues to write sexually harrassing songs about me and other women.”

According to court files, Roth’s attorney, Richard A. Friedman, has produced several letters written by Davidsohn, including an invitation announcing their supposed wedding and a sexually explicit missive about Roth.

In 1989, Roth successfully petitioned for a three-year restraining order against Davidsohn.

“Other than the fact that a restraining order was obtained against her in 1989, which she violated and was subsequently jailed for, we have no further comment,” Roth’s public relations firm, Levine/Schneider, said in a written statement.

At the time, Davidsohn also sought an order against the rock star, but was unsuccessful. Her second and current lawsuit against Roth, filed on June 27, is scheduled for a hearing Friday in Superior Court in Burbank.

In it she asks, in part, that Roth be restrained from releasing songs with lyrics about her.
