HOLLYWOOD PARK : Cool Air Sets Stakes Record
Cool Air left eight rivals feeling her draft as she posted a stakes record time of 1:01 3/5 for 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf in capturing Friday night’s $155,600 Budweiser Breeders’ Cup at Hollywood Park.
Cool Air, the only filly in the field of eight sprinters, surged under jockey Chris Antley in the final furlong as she drew away to win by 2 1/2 lengths over D’Hallevant. Bahatur finished third.
The winner’s share of $88,100 boosted Cool Air’s earnings to $448,503.
Cool Air, trained by Gary Jones and a winner of 12 of 26 lifetime starts, paid $4.20 to win as the 6-5 betting choice.
