LINCOLN HEIGHTS : Fund-Raiser Set for Family of Teacher

Share

Parents of children enrolled at Jardin de los Ninos have scheduled a Saturday lunch fund-raiser for the family of a teacher who was killed last month while saving a child from a rolling school bus.

Sara Quezada died June 24 at Griffith Park after the preschool students she had supervised finished a trip to the Los Angeles Zoo. The children were boarding their bus when it began to roll, and Quezada, 50, pulled one of the children who was falling in its path toward her. The bus rolled over them, but Quezada shielded 3-year-old C.J. Keith with her body and saved his life.

“The parents want to show their appreciation,” said Deborah Fowler, a parent who serves as president of the preschool class. “We loved her and we cared for her and we know this isn’t going to bring her back, but we want to show that we loved her.”

The $4 carne asada lunch and a puppet show will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jardin de los Ninos, 2422 Manitou Ave., where Quezada worked for four years.
