Discounts That Come With a Room Key

Most hotels, resorts and bed and breakfast lodgings throughout the United States routinely offer senior discounts. Some recent offers are listed here, all subject to space available.

One that must qualify as a “best buy” is the “See It All” package offered by San Francisco’s Pacific Bay Inn, a refurbished historic hotel on theater row in the city’s downtown district three blocks from Union Square. The package includes seven nights accommodations for two with full breakfast and dinner daily for $345. The offer is valid until Oct. 31, 1994. For a brochure or reservations, call (800) 445-2631.

Right after the Labor Day weekend, beginning Sept. 6 and continuing until Dec. 30, travelers can get a very good discount package at the elegant Dream Inn on the Beach in the seaside city of Santa Cruz. Regular rates, from $190 to $225, are reduced to $89.95 per night Sunday through Friday for two, which includes a spacious oceanfront room, two welcome cocktails and a $15 food credit in the resort’s Compass Grill. In Honolulu, the Waikiki Parkside Hotel is offering a 30% discount on room rates for seniors until Dec. 19. The discount results in rates of $69, $77 and $84 for one or two. All Waikiki Parkside guest rooms have a mini-refrigerator, private safe, hot water dispenser and a basket of coffee and teas. The discount applies to guests over 50. Also in Honolulu the Coconut Plaza has initiated a “Seniors Rate With Us” program, which includes substantial discounts on rooms and kitchenette suites. The parenthetical figure is the regular rate:

* Standard with kitchenette $50 ($85).

* Superior with kitchenette $55 ($95).

* Deluxe with kitchenette $70 ($110).

* Plaza Suite with kitchenette $95 ($150).

In Honolulu the Royal Garden Hotel in Waikiki has a “Young at Heart” program for guests over age 55 that includes a 20% discount from rates that range from $95 for standard rooms to $180 for deluxe rooms. Suites are also available and subject to the discount. A complimentary continental breakfast is included each day, plus a free scheduled shuttle to Waikiki shopping centers. Those over 55 can enjoy a luxurious three-room suite and dinner for two for $69 per night at the Newport Beach Marriott Suites hotel on the scenic Newport Beach back bay. Regular rates are $109 per night without the dinner. The discounted package is valid on Sunday and Monday nights only and will be available through Dec. 30. Probably one of the smallest lodgings is the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast--it has just two suites. It is located about 35 miles north of San Francisco in Point Reyes Station adjacent to the dramatic Point Reyes National Seashore. Each suite can accommodate two couples and each has a fireplace plus complete bath and kitchen. Regular rates, which include a hot breakfast, are $120 per night for two, $150 per night for four. Guests who prefer to fix their own breakfast may deduct $20 from the quoted rates. Guests over age 60 receive a 25% discount from the above rates from Sunday through Thursday year-round.
