THOUSAND OAKS : 30 Trees Considered for Downtown Strip
The hodgepodge of stores along Thousand Oaks Boulevard may soon get some uniform landscaping, with 30 new potted trees to be scattered along the 4-mile strip.
At the request of Councilwoman Judy Lazar, the City Council on Tuesday will consider spending $15,570 in gas tax funds to buy the trees and deliver the hefty concrete planters.
Lazar has recommended filling the 800-pound planters with three different species: bronze leaf loquat, fern pine and Western redbud. Tending the trees would cost about $2,700 a year, she estimated.
Sprucing up Thousand Oaks Boulevard with a bit more greenery would fit into the council’s longstanding plan to renovate the aging downtown. “I think on the whole, we do need to do something to soften the boulevard,” Councilman Frank Schillo said.
