Cowboys’ Smith Suffers Minor Injury When Cart Strikes Unofficial Mascot
Dallas Cowboy running back Emmitt Smith suffered a slight head injury Sunday when a small motorized cart he was riding ran into unofficial team mascot Ray Jones, 63, known as “Crazy Ray.”
Smith, last season’s regular-season and Super Bowl most valuable player, underwent a CAT scan at St. David Hospital. Test results were negative and Smith was released. Jones was not seriously injured.
The accident occurred shortly after noon as players gathered at the Cowboys’ training camp on the campus of St. Edward’s University. Smith was riding a cart driven by teammate Tommie Agee when they hit Jones.
