PANORAMA CITY : Katz to Host State Government Day

Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) will host the 14th annual State Government Day at Panorama Mall Saturday, where residents will be encouraged to find out how local and state government organizations can serve them.

The event will feature exhibits from nearly 40 government agencies and organizations. The agency representatives will also take suggestions, complaints and questions from the public.

Agencies expected to set up exhibits include the California Highway Patrol, the California Museum of Science and Industry, the Employment Development Department and the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will display the GM Impact EV electric car, which has a city driving range of 70 miles per charge and a top speed of 80 m.p.h. The car is part of a joint project with the Southern California Edison Co. and General Motors to field-test the vehicle for its practicality.

There will also be displays by Cal State Northridge, the Department of Social Services and the Valley Community Clinic.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the mall, located at 8401 Van Nuys Blvd.
