911 Calls Lead to Arrest in Shooting Death

A 23-year-old man sought as a suspect in the shooting death of a San Fernando man was taken into custody without incident Monday after police responded to several 911 calls reporting shots being fired, authorities said.

Michael Elizondo, who also uses the alias Cuautemoc Rivera, among others, was arrested at a home in the 700 block of Hollister Street by authorities who negotiated his surrender over the phone with a relative at the house, said Detective Mike Langston of the San Fernando Police Department.

Langston said that Elizondo showed up as an uninvited guest Sunday at a baptism where he knew many people. After the ceremony, he caught a ride home with Damian Martinez and two other men who rode in the front seat, Langston said.

On the way back to the Hollister Street home, Elizondo and Martinez argued in the car and then climbed out and began fighting in the 600 block of North Brand Boulevard at about 10:35 p.m., Langston said.

“They battled on Brand and then Elizondo pulled out a pistol and shot him,” Langston said.

Police officers responded to a call of shots fired and spotted a four-door Cadillac fleeing the scene, according to a news release issued by the department.

Officers stopped the car, driven by one of the other men, and found Martinez in the back seat, but he died before paramedics arrived, police said.

Elizondo is being held without bail at the San Fernando city jail, authorities said.
