A Brazilian soccer fan was murdered by his brother-in-law because he praised the Italian team during the World Cup final, news agency Estado reported.

Jose de Oliveira Lima, 44, was stabbed to death by Raimundo Leadro in a bar in the remote Amazon city of Rio Branco after Lima said Italy was playing well by denying Brazil a goal, Estado reported Monday. The game ended 0-0 and was won by Brazil on penalty kicks.

In another incident, two students in Rio Branco suffered injuries when they were shot as they watched the match in another bar. The women, supporting Italy, were shot at by an infuriated boyfriend. In Campinas, a 51-year-old woman suffered a heart attack when the match went into extra time and she died before reaching hospital.
