ALHAMBRA: Four armed men robbed a sewing machine company Tuesday afternoon. The robbers entered the store in the 2400 block of West Valley Boulevard at 1:20 p.m. and demanded that employees and customers turn over jewelry and cash. The robbers hit one person on the head with the butt of a knife and another with the butt of a gun, police said. They then ran out of the store with about $400 in cash and jewelry and got in two cars. An employee activated a silent alarm and after a chase, police arrested Guo Chen, 21, of Alhambra on suspicion of armed robbery. He is being held in Alhambra City Jail on $50,000 bail. Three suspects are still at large. Police are looking for a dark blue, late-model, two-door Honda Civic that was driven by one of the robbers.

CLAREMONT: A 19-year-old Upland woman who had been missing more than 30 hours was in critical condition Wednesday after her car flew off the road and into a Claremont flood control channel early Sunday morning. Melissa Jan Pillow had left a party in Glendora at 1:30 a.m. Sunday with three friends, said Claremont Police Officer Larry Horowitz. After the group went to Pillow’s brother’s fraternity house on Garey Avenue in Pomona, Pillow left by herself about 3:45 a.m., Horowitz said. Her car apparently went off an embankment along Garey Avenue, struck the concrete side of the flood control channel and dropped 40 feet, he said. Pillow was not found until early Monday evening, when a couple taking a walk saw the car.

The two were later seen in a car with a third man driving. Arrested on suspicion of robbery were Eric Wilson, 24, of Hawthorne; Derrick Daniels, 22, of Los Angeles; and Deandre Wright, 25, of Pacoima. They were held in Glendora City Jail on $50,000 bail each.
