Wives of California Angels players will be collecting canned food for the needy at various Anaheim Stadium gates this weekend when the New York Yankees come to visit.

Fans who contribute will receive autographed pictures of Angels players. The women will be at gates 1, 3 and 4 before and during the first two innings of each of the last three games of a four-game series.

The second game and third games take place at 7:05 tonight and Saturday night. The last game will be played at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

The wives who will take part in the drive are Paula Myers, Marci Salmon, Linda Jackson, Candace Curtis, Janee DiSarcina, Dawn Easley, Ann Leftwich, Kelly Springer, LeAnn Edmonds, Staci Snow, Allison Leiter, Renee Magrane, Gail Owen, Lauri Turner, Louisa Patterson and Kelly Lewis.

Last year, the women collected more than 7,000 pounds of canned foods for the Food Distribution Center of Orange County. They expect to double that this year.

“If we could get every fan to bring in one can of beans or soup or something, we could easily double what we got last year,” said Myers, whose husband, Greg, is a catcher.
