Carole Black, senior vice president of marketing for television at Walt Disney Co., on Friday was named president and general manager of KNBC-TV Channel 4.

Black replaces Reed Manville, who resigned in March following several months of turmoil at the station, including reports of low morale among employees and the departure of five Latino news reporters and anchors who said racial bias played a role in their exits.

In her new position, Black will be responsible for day-to-day management of the station, including news, programming and sales.

As vice president of marketing of television at Disney, Black had overall responsibility for strategic planning, creative development, advertising, publicity, promotion, affiliate relations and consumer research for both syndication and network division.

John Rohrbeck, NBC-TV stations president, said in making the announcement, “At a time of an ever increasingly competitive environment, we are confident Carole will provide the direction necessary to uniquely distinguish KNBC-TV and advance even further the station’s strong position in the highly competitive L.A. market.”
