U.S. Marshals Searching for Murder Suspect in Oxnard
Federal investigators are combing the Oxnard area looking for the third of three brothers wanted in connection with the killing of seven people in Mexico three years ago, the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Los Angeles said Monday.
Marshals already have two of the men in custody on warrants issued in Oaxaca, Mexico, last Thursday.
“Three provisional arrest warrants were issued July 21 on behalf of Mexico,” said supervising Deputy Marshal Tom Figmik. “One was already in (Immigration Naturalization Service) custody and one we arrested at the Mexican consulate on Friday.
“But we believe the third guy is still in Oxnard,” said Figmik, whose office is responsible for executing international arrest warrants.
The three brothers, Rigoberto, Eutiquio and Heriberto Gomez-Galicia, are accused of killing seven people on Oct. 9, 1991, in the small village of San Francisco Higos in the state of Oaxaca, Figmik said.
“It’s like a family feud between them and another family,” Figmik said. “Most of (the victims) were women and children.”
Heriberto Gomez-Galicia is at large, Figmik said.
The two brothers are being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles until extradition paperwork is completed, he said.
