Allergan Appoints UC San Francisco Professor to Board

* Herbert W. Boyer has been appointed to the board of Allergan Inc., an Irvine health care company, increasing the number of directors to 13. Boyer is a professor emeritus in the department of biochemistry and biophysics at UC San Francisco. He co-founded and is a director of the biotech firm Genentech Inc. in San Francisco.

* J. Fernando Niebla has been elected to the boards of directors of both The Bank of California and BanCal Tri-State Corp. in San Francisco. Niebla is chairman and chief executive of Infotec Development Inc., a Santa Ana software developer he founded in 1979.

* Alan Adelman has been appointed president and chief executive of Analytic Investment Management Inc., an Irvine company that manages derivative securities. Adelman had been chief investment officer of First Interstate Bank of California for six years.

* Laurie Gebhardt has been named senior account executive in the Irvine office of Commonwealth Mortgage Assurance Co. Before joining the company as an account executive three years ago, she was regional account manager for TRW Real Estate Loan Services in Orange.

* Rieva Lesonsky has been appointed to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Advisory Council. Lesonsky is editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur Magazine in Irvine. The council serves as an advisory group to the SBA, Congress and the President on small-business issues.

* David Wright has been appointed vice president for the Costa Mesa office of Johnson & Higgins, an insurance broker. Wright has been with the company for more than three years, specializing in professional liability coverage. Before that, he was a branch manager with American International Group.

* Linda White-Peters has been selected as director of corporate relations at UC Irvine. She had been director of the Women’s Opportunities Center since 1991. In her new position, she will develop and implement the corporate relations and corporate fund-raising program for UCI, direct the activities of the Chief Executive Roundtable annual fund program and develop strategies for corporate gifts. Before joining UCI, she was director of the Career Development Center and associate director of the Office of Executive Programs at Pepperdine University’s School of Business and Management.

* James F. Doherty has been appointed to the board of directors of SysteMed Inc., a Laguna Hills prescription benefits management company. He succeeds Raymond Harkavy, who recently retired after 24 years on SysteMed’s board. Doherty is the former president of the Group Health Assn. of America Inc., a trade association for prepaid health care systems, a position he held from 1985 until late 1993.

* Scott Harlin has been named to head Green Light Communications’ new Orange County office in Santa Ana. He will oversee all high-tech marketing, advertising and public relations for the company in Orange, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Before joining Green Light, Harlin was director of marketing for Roland Digital Group in Irvine and director of marketing communications for Versacad Corp. in Huntington Beach.
