Stephen Gavlick, 75, Active in Leisure World Charity, Dies

Stephen Gavlick, a Leisure World resident who was active in a variety of charities, died this month. He was 75 and suffered from cancer.

Gavlick was a leading member of the Golden Age Foundation, the charitable wing of Leisure World’s governing board. The foundation provides low-income Leisure World residents with walkers, wheelchairs, blood pressure machines and other essential items.

He held top positions with the Seal Beach Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus service organizations. Gavlick also served for several years on a city advisory board that looked at development options for vacant land near the San Gabriel River.

Gavlick was born and spent most of his life in Swoyersville, Pa., where he worked as a jeweler, insurance agent and real estate agent. He retired to Leisure World in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Seal Beach; a daughter, Marna Merrill of Riverside County; and two sons, Stephen G. Gavlick of Cypress and Kenneth Gavlick of Swoyersville.
