Dr. Leroy R. Weekes; Ex-Urban League President, Business Leader

Leroy R. Weekes, 81, a prominent obstetrician, black business leader and three-term president of the Los Angeles Urban League in the early 1970s. Weekes, who was honored in 1975 by the Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade for helping build a minority business base in the city, was founder and chairman of the board for Ross Medical Center, the Bank of Finance and West Adams Community Hospital. He also was a past president of the state Board of Medical Examiners and had been a professor at USC and the Charles R. Drew Postgraduate Medical School. In 1969 he became the first black president of the staff at Queen of Angels Hospital. On Sunday in Los Angeles after a stroke.
