Bomb Suspect: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has released composite drawings of a suspected serial bomber, one of whose intended victims was apparently Robert Iger, the president of ABC Television Network Group. In May a package bomb addressed to Iger was discovered by a secretary at the New York headquarters of ABC. In late July a parcel bomb addressed to Iger was discovered at United Parcel Service in Jackson, Miss. Both were defused without incident. “The bomber may be employed, or have expressed a desire to be employed in the television or related industry,” the bureau said. “It is possible that he is someone who has been very vocal against the broadcast media in the past.”

‘Lollapalooza’ Surprise: Kurt Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, made a surprise appearance at Philadelphia’s “Lollapalooza” show on Monday. Love came on stage unannounced before the closing set by Smashing Pumpkins and asked for a moment of silence for her late husband, then sang her songs “Doll Parts” and “Miss World” to an enthusiastic response from the crowd of 43,000. This was Love’s second such appearance since Cobain’s April suicide. Last month she sang two songs following a show by the Lemonheads at a New York club. Her career has been on hold since Cobain’s suicide and the drug overdose death of Kristen Pfaff, the bassist in Love’s group, Hole.

Madonna ‘Fan’ to Face Trial: An Aug. 16 trial date was set Tuesday for an allegedly obsessed Madonna fan who was arrested after he reportedly jumped an eight-foot security fence at the pop star’s Hollywood home two weeks ago. Todd Lawrence, whose attorney would not tell reporters his age or occupation, faces two counts of trespassing and single counts each of battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest. Madonna, who did not attend the Hollywood hearing, obtained a temporary restraining order against Lawrence on July 22. Court documents filed in support of the restraining order allege Lawrence claimed he was Madonna’s “husband” and was “coming home.”

Summer Squeeze: Columbia Pictures’ “The Next Karate Kid” is the latest movie to drop out of the crowded and competitive summer season. The studio said Tuesday that the film, which is the fourth in the “Karate Kid” series--this time focusing on a young woman and the continuing spiritual character played by Pat Morita--will open Sept. 9 instead of Aug. 12. Jeff Blake, Columbia’s president of domestic distribution, said that with each passing week, “the strength of the competing films and their longevity in the market became (more) apparent.”
