Big Sisters of Los Angeles needs volunteers to mentor young girls who are believed to be at risk for dropping out of school, getting pregnant, joining gangs or taking drugs.
The program, established in 1982, pairs women and girls according to common interests for up to four hours of activities per week.
Big Sisters can provide the friendship and guidance often missing in the lives of the girls, said spokeswoman Susan Pasternak.
