Natural Gas Facility Opens: The nation’s largest facility for converting cars and trucks to natural gas opens in East Los Angeles on Friday. The Ecotrans assembly plant, owned in part by Southern California Gas Co., is one of the first enterprises to begin to meet a growing demand for cleaner, alternative-fuel cars, largely created by the California Air Resources Board Low Emission Vehicle rules. While most attention has been focused on electric cars, many thousands more natural gas vehicles, particularly in fleet use, are expected to appear on the state’s highways over the next few years.
