THOUSAND OAKS : Library Slide Shows Focus on Marine Life

Share

Hoping to introduce children to the marine life of the Channel Islands, the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library are sponsoring two slide presentations today for children and their families.

The programs, which will begin at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., will take kindergartners and older children on a tour of a kelp forest, bring them face-to-face with docile and dangerous marine creatures, and show them the islands’ unique terrain.

The program is one of the Friends’ monthly events or “Family Fests,” which were recently put on hiatus after the Northridge earthquake.

“Back before the earthquake we had one every month,” library spokeswoman Kathy Hockel said. “This will be the very first one since the earthquake.”

The Channel Islands expedition will be held at the Newbury Park Branch of the Thousand Oaks Library. Admission is free, but seating is limited to 75 for each show.
