LAGUNA HILLS : Council to Weigh Stop Sign Installation

Share

The City Council tonight will consider placing a stop sign at the intersection of Hon Avenue and Camberwell Street, just off of Alicia Parkway.

Area residents have long complained about drivers speeding down the residential street that begins at Alicia Parkway as a commercial strip.

The traffic commission has recommended a second stop sign, at Hon and Julie avenues. The recommendation comes just weeks after the council approved new three-way stop signs along Mackenzie Street.

A group of vocal Mackenzie residents had banded together to ask the council to slow down the commuters who use it as a freeway alternate.

City Engineer Ken Rosenfield had recommended only a stop sign at Hon and Camberwell because it is difficult for drivers to see the intersection as they travel south on Hon.

He did not recommend a second stop sign at Hon and Julie because stop signs are not used just to slow traffic.

The council will also consider placing a rumble strip on Hon north of Camberwell to further slow drivers.
