Long Beach Woman to Head Library

Long Beach resident Mary Ann Hutton has been named senior librarian of the Westminster branch of the Orange County Public Library. Hutton had been head of the library’s Mission Viejo branch. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Cal State Long Beach and a master’s degree in library science from USC. She was a librarian at Paramount Television Studios and the Huntington Beach Public Library.

Two sheriff’s deputies from the Lakewood division have received 10851 Awards from the Automobile Club of Southern California. Deputies Paul Jernigan and Scott Anger were honored for stopping suspects in stolen vehicles. The 10851 Award is named for the California Vehicle Code section that prohibits vehicle theft.

Long Beach physician Timothy Schwab was elected president of the California Society of Internal Medicine. Schwab, medical director of SCAN Health Plan in Long Beach, is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCLA.

Long Beach Memorial Medical Center’s Memorial Health Services division named John Hancock chairman of the board of directors. Hancock, senior vice president of the Bancap Investment Group, previously served as the board’s vice chairman. Memorial Health Services provides health and managed care services.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Long Beach recently honored two attorneys. The Sommelier d’Esprit award for distinguished service to the profession and to the community went to Allan E. Tebbetts, a civil rights and political attorney. The Leadership Challenge Award went to Norman R. Samuelsen, a retired specialist in worker’s compensation law. The Legal Aid Foundation serves Southeast Los Angeles and the South Bay.

Gopal Raman was named dean of admissions and records at Long Beach City College. Gopal was director of admissions and financial aid for more than a decade at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
