As part of an ongoing statewide project to make bridges more earthquake-safe, the California Transportation Commission on Wednesday approved funding to shore up four bridges along the Ventura Freeway in Ventura County.
The $1.6-million seismic retrofit project, which is scheduled to begin within two months, will include two bridges at the Ventura River and two near the Rincon, said Robert Joe, senior construction engineer for Caltrans.
Right now Caltrans is retrofitting several other bridges in Ventura County. They are the Santa Paula Freeway at Wells Road, at Victoria Avenue and at the Ventura Freeway; the Ventura Freeway near Seaward Avenue and at San Jon Road; the Moorpark Freeway in Thousand Oaks, and the Simi Valley Freeway at Kuehner Drive.
