WOODLAND HILLS : Pierce College Offers Bricks for Donations

Share

Pierce College thespians are urging community members to put their mortar where their mouths are to help pave the way to the college’s Performing Arts Building.

Built in 1980 with state funds, the 340-seat theater and arts center sits on one of the highest points on campus, offering sweeping views of the Valley. But funds ran out more than a decade ago, before landscaping around the center could begin, leaving dirt covering the plaza entrance and one of its parking lots.

Now, students and administrators are asking supporters to buy a brick and help launch the long-delayed landscaping project.

For $50, supporters can assist with the improvements and have their names go down in history. The bricks, which will form a walkway to the center, will be inscribed with names of donors who take part.

“Former faculty and staff. People who have taken a course here,” said Pierce President Mary Lee. “Anyone who would love to be immortalized at Pierce College.”

The $350,000 project will include a plaza with a park-like setting around an area administrators call the focal point of the campus. The building houses classrooms as well as the theater, which is used for music, theater and dance productions.
