Two adults and three juveniles were arrested after shots were fired in a fight between two rival street gangs in Ventura’s Montalvo area, authorities said.

The five were arrested after they jumped into a nearby car and fired several rounds from a handgun during the street fight late Wednesday, said Ventura Police Cpl. Thomas Taylor.

Taylor said officers were able to quickly pull the car over and arrest the five people inside without incident. The handgun believed used in the shooting was recovered nearby.

No one was injured during the incident, which took place near the intersection of Peacock Avenue and Whippoorwill Street.

Taylor said Sandro Mendez, 18, of Ventura was arrested on suspicion of weapons violations and booked into Ventura County Jail. He was released on his recognizance Thursday. Rudolfo Martinez, 21, also of Ventura, was cited and released at the scene.

Three juvenile males, whose names were not released because of their ages, were detained by police but were later released into the custody of their parents.
