SIMI VALLEY : Plan Would Mandate Bins for Recycling

Share

A plan that would force existing and future housing developments to set aside specific areas for recycling dumpsters will come before the Simi Valley Planning Commission on Wednesday.

The proposal, which seeks to revise the city’s current recycling ordinance, would help bring the city closer to state-mandated recycling goals, city officials said.

The state requires cities to divert 25% of their trash away from landfills by 1995 by setting up new recycling and composting programs. Cities must divert 50% of their trash by Jan. 1, 2000.
