LAKE PIRU : Search for Drowned Man Is Suspended
The search for the body of a North Hollywood man believed drowned in Lake Piru was suspended Monday, after divers and helicopter rescue teams combed the waters for nearly 11 hours.
Amado Carraza, 27, is believed to have drowned in the lake late Sunday afternoon.
Carraza left a rented boat at the lake to go for a swim, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Giles. But shortly after he entered the water, Carraza began struggling.
Members of his family aboard the boat threw him floating devices and at least one life vest, but the equipment was no help.
A relative of Carraza’s dove in to try save him but had to let go when the struggling swimmer began to pull the other man under the water, Giles said.
Authorities believe the accident occurred on the western side of the lake but outside of a designated swimming area where water depths range from 15 to 65 feet.
