Father Charged With Child Abuse
A man who left his 20-month-old son unattended in a closed car in Reseda during the weekend heat wave was charged Monday with one count of felony child abuse, the district attorney’s office said.
Dennis Fischer, 34, of Paramount was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Sunday after he allegedly left the boy in the car while he went into a record store, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney.
A passerby, Gibbons said, saw the child in the car and called police. The boy has been released into his mother’s custody, she said.
Fischer is being held on $50,000 bail in Van Nuys Jail, Gibbons said. If convicted, he would face a maximum of six years in prison.
Fischer is a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher in South Los Angeles, according the the district attorney’s office.
