“We’re expecting a cooling trend to continue through the end of the week,” said Curtis Brack, meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

Highs recorded around the county Tuesday--none of them record-breaking--were down by one or two degrees: Fullerton, 87; Santa Ana, 88; Lake Forest, 92; Dana Point, 83; Irvine, 93; Laguna Beach, 85; Newport Beach, 75; San Juan Capistrano, 79.

“The next few days we’re looking for highs from the 70s at the beaches to around 90 inland, with overnight lows in the 60s and lower 70s.”

With seven strike teams of Orange County firefighters helping battle the big wildfire in the San Luis Obispo area, weather forecasters are predicting a continuation of helpful humidity along the coast, with little likelihood of dangerous winds.

“Possibly, there may be some very localized offshore winds Thursday, and possibly again Friday, but nothing very definite,” Brack said. The humidity should decrease, however, in inland areas.

In the mountains, Brack said, “There could be some very isolated thunderstorms . . . but we’re really not expecting anything for Orange County,”

Along the coast, today’s surf in Orange County is expected to be 3 to 5 feet.
