VENTURA : CSUN Admission Deadline Is Today

Share

Residents who want to take classes at Cal State Northridge’s Ventura campus have until 7 p.m. today to apply for admission, officials said Wednesday.

To take upper-division courses offered at CSUN’s satellite campus in Ventura, students must have at least 56 college credits and must have already ordered transcripts.

For those students already accepted for admission, registration continues until the first day of classes on Sept. 29, with late registration continuing until Oct. 15.

Administrators are again expecting record numbers of students to sign up for courses at the Ventura campus, where more classes are being offered this fall than ever.

“We have a new record almost every fall and we are expecting that this year,” said Joyce M. Kennedy, director of the campus. “We have added a bilingual teaching credential for the first time and are very pleased with the response. We also have added several more classes as a result of our fund-raising efforts.”

State budget cuts in recent years forced the campus to cancel classes, dropping the total offered to 94 at one point. But through fund raising, including a telethon and solicitations to large corporations, the campus now offers 110 courses, Kennedy said.

“It’s encouraging to see that the fund raising we’re doing for classroom instruction is really making a significant difference,” she said.

Registration this year has already reached just under 1,400 part-time students, or the equivalent of 558 taking full-time courses. Last year, the campus carried the equivalent of 605 full-time students.

Kennedy couldn’t predict the final registration tally, but she said: “I expect that it will exceed that number.”
