GARDEN GROVE : Mayoral Candidate Out of the Race

Share

City Clerk Carolyn Morris has disqualified candidacy papers filed by businessman Josh McIntosh, leaving five people to vie for the mayor’s seat in the November election.

Morris said that of the 26 signatures McIntosh had gathered to nominate him as a mayoral candidate, only 12 were certified as valid signatures. Twenty registered voters’ signatures are necessary to nominate a candidate, she said.

Morris said she always suggests to prospective candidates that they gather as many as 30 signatures to make sure that there is a sufficient number after the signatures are verified.

With McIntosh out of the race, five people, including two incumbent council members, are competing for the two-year mayor’s term.

They are Councilman Bruce A. Broadwater, 55, an insurance analyst for the state Department of Insurance; Councilman Ho Chung, 60, an insurance agent; Kelly Sherwood, 28, an engineering assistant; Al Snook, 59, an insurance broker; and former Planning Commissioner Bart Blakesley, 53, an engineer.

Mayor Frank Kessler, who was elected in 1992, has decided not to seek reelection.
