An 18-year-old man who was killed after being ejected from a car on a winding road east of Ojai was identified Wednesday as Joseph Uribe of Ojai.

The driver of the car, 17-year-old Diana Lane, suffered minor injuries in the accident, as did the two other occupants, 20-year-old Eric Horne and 16-year-old Rebecca Sines. All three live in Ojai.

Diana, while driving east on Reeves Road, lost control of the car at a curve near McNell Road about 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Tony Odell, who handled the CHP investigation, said the car overturned and rolled over Uribe, who was ejected from the passenger seat. He was the only occupant not wearing his seat belt, Odell said.

“He was a very nice boy,” said Mary Horne, Eric Horne’s mother. “They (are) all very nice kids. They don’t use drugs. They don’t drink. They’re unusual for this day and age.”

Only moments before the accident, Diana had purchased gas at the Texaco station where Uribe worked, said 20-year-old employee Travis Greer. “He had good plans,” Greer said. “He wanted to be a cop. . . . He was a fun guy to be with.”
